I’ve been involved professionally in the music industry for over 20 years as a writer, producer and arranger.
My career began as a self -taught bass player, playing in various local bands, until I joined a CBS Records act called ‘Grand Hotel’ in the early 80s. Their debut album was produced by Rhett Davies, who went on to produce, among others, Talking Heads and Roxy Music. This was when I began to observe how people in the recording world worked. I was eager to pick up tips and techniques, some of which I still use to this day.
The singer and I left ‘Grand Hotel’ to form a duo called ‘The Quick’ with whom we wrote and produced several international hits in the 80s.
‘The Quick’ eventually became ‘Giant Steps’, who then signed to A+M records and had a self-written and produced top ten single in America with a song called ‘Another Lover’. During this time, I spent a couple of years living and working in Los Angeles where, again, I just looked, learned and listened to everything in every studio I worked in, and with every writer I co-wrote with. It was all invaluable experience.
Subsequently, I came back to London, built my own Song-creator studio and became heavily involved in song-writing, music production, programming and arranging, having success with artists such as Gabrielle, Chaka Khan, Kylie and Kim Wilde, amongst others.
My music has also featured in the following TV shows:
